Can you hear that? Beep. Beep. BEEP!
It may not be loud but it can feel like torture. Especially when it's constant! Here's what to do when your alarm is driving you bleeping bonkers!
The first thing to do is figure out where it's coming from. Is it your smoke alarm on the ceiling? A CO2 alarm near your gas boiler? Some of them will flash a small light as well as make that awful noise when they need attention.
A burglar alarm in a house will have a central control panel. This may be in a cupboard somewhere, so open every door you have. Check behind and under everything that could be hiding it, such as coats or stacks of boxes.
If you're in a block of flats or a business premises, you might find it in a communal area, either in a cupboard or in a box on a wall. You probably walk past it every day without noticing, so try to trace the sound or ask someone with fresh eyes to have a look.
Once you've found it, you should see a sticker or badge with the name of the installer to contact for assistance. As you can see from the image above, you can't miss ours!
If your panel is showing a fault code or any other information, take a note of it. It might be something that your installer can guide you through over the phone for an instant fix - and instant relief for your ears!
Most of the time with smoke or CO2 alarms it's a simple fix. They usually beep when they need a battery replacement. Try to have spares available so you're not tempted to disable it till you get to a shop!
While you're at it, give your smoke alarm a spruce up with the soft brush on your vacuum cleaner. They can suffer from a build up of dust, pollen and even little insects that crawl inside. This can cause false alarms which are just as annoying as beeping - and much louder!
