Police are relieved to have put an end to a spate of home invasions in the South East. Thieves managed to take over 1 million pounds worth of luxury items from hundreds of residents in SW London and Surrey.
The list of items included handbags, jewellery, and designer clothes. Luckily, the authorities were able to track the suspects through their vehicles and many have been arrested and convicted while some are being detained by other forces.
What makes this incident particularly shocking is that the invaders were a criminal gang flown in from Chile and the stolen goods were then shipped out of the country! Even more alarming is how this gang, of at least 75 individuals, were able to enter all of the homes without setting off the alarms!
The gang was able to pinpoint a flaw that exists in most basic security systems. While the bottom floor of a home is fully equipped with alarms, anything higher is left completely vulnerable and without security. The thieves used this to their advantage and instead of entering through the ground floor, they chose to climb to the top of the homes with low roofs using garden furniture. In this way, they avoided the alarms altogether.
What can this teach homeowners about shoddy security? Are there any home security tips that could prevent this? The main thing to learn is the importance of a professional home alarm installation.
If you want to ensure the safety of your home and family you should ideally work with a security firm that is certified. These reputable companies will make sure all of the bases are covered and there are no gaps to be exploited.
Many companies only think about security in terms of the ground floor. They don't give any thought to the Chile burglar’s method. We're concerned about every possible point of entrance, including the ones rarely thought of - such as the roof. We understand that ladders make your upstairs area an easy option for thieves.
There are several DIY alarm kits that you can purchase off the shelf. Sure, they come with step by step instructions. However, what many lack is the years of experience that is needed to ensure that your system is installed correctly. Not only can we install your security, but we know exactly where to place the sensors and how many you need. Your upstairs should always be a part of this protection.
Another mistake that homeowners tend to make is hiring a household handyman to install their alarm. Sure, this person may be good with their hands, but do they know how to choose a system that is right for you. Are they well-versed on one that is the most reliable? Are they themselves trustworthy?
