Increasing security with an Access Control System for a School in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex
Blake's was contacted by the facilities management team for a local secondary school in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex. The School needed a new Access Control system to increase security and safeguarding for the students and staff.
SECURITY ISSUES AND SITE SURVEY
The school had two problems:
- Students leaving the premises without consent
- Members of the public gaining unauthorised entry
Blake's carried out a full site survey and consultation with Pinnacle, the facilities management company. This initial work identified that a compliant Access Control system, with gates and fencing, would minimise these problems for the school.
REQUIREMENTS
New gates and fencing were to be installed at the front of the school. Changes were also made to add a Control System to pedestrian access. This would mean only authorised persons could access the gates and improve the safeguarding of staff and students.
INSTALLATION
Blake's installed two pedestrian gates, fitted with gate closes, one vehicle gate, fencing, and a new Access Control system. The gate closes allow the gates to open wider than 90 degrees. The installation also included key fob readers, magnetic locks, and gate closures.
ACCESS CONTROL SYSTEM
The Access Control system is linked to the school's "ACT PRO" networked system. The ACT PRO by Vanderbuilt Industries is a PC-based control system that can be used on one door to hundreds of doors. ACT PRO is used to control gate and door access around the site and ensures access is only given to authorised users.
ACT PRO - TRIED AND TESTED SECURITY
ACT PRO is used at many locations where security is vital, including Sheffield University, London Luton Airport, ASDA supermarkets, and HM Passport office.
SITE LANDSCAPING
This job also involved Blake's clearing bushes and undergrowth so that trenches could be dug for the fencing and gates installation. After the security installation was complete, Blake's also installed kerb stones and tarmac paths to blend with the rest of the school grounds.
RESULTS
The school previously had an issue with members of the public roaming the grounds and pupils leaving during the day without permission. After working with Blake's both of these issues have been eased. The added security from the installation has helped to safeguard both pupils and staff, and the updated ACT PRO system has made controlling access much easier.
