The site manager of a primary school in Chelmsford, Essex contacted us. He wanted some help with their emergency lighting.
SITE SURVEY
The school’s existing installation was brand new. Another company had installed it incorrectly. So it was not fully compliant with the current standards.
Our site survey also revealed damage to the existing external lighting as well.
The site manager asked us to provide a quotation to design, supply and install a fully compliant emergency lighting system. One which would meet the BS 5266-1:2016 standards. And to repair the external lighting.
INSTALLATION
The Blake's team designed, supplied and installed a new emergency light system. This included 16x 18 watt LED maintained external emergency bulkheads with dusk to dawn sensors. These were deployed in various areas around the perimeter.
We made safe and/or removed any dis-used wiring not required for the install. The wiring to the emergency lights was installed using the same type of wiring as the local lighting circuits. It was either hidden in the fabric of the building or clipped direct/supported in mini trunking.
All works were carried out in accordance with BS 5266-1:2016.
WHAT IS MAINTAINED LIGHTING?
Maintained emergency lighting is mains powered. But, if the mains power fails, there is a backup battery. So the light stays lit for a specific duration to allow for safe evacuation of the school in an emergency.
EMERGENCY LIGHTING INSTALLATION AFTERCARE
Testing and commissioning was carried out on completion of the works and certification was provided.
A suitable emergency lighting logbook was supplied to the client, including all relevant drawings, emergency light listings, certification, relevant literature & photometric data.
We also trained the school’s staff to carry out regular monthly tests, including how to use the test facilities and complete the log book regularly.
WHAT THE SCHOOL SAID
The School's Site Manager was very pleased with the work that was carried out. And the engineers who completed the installation.
