Having a regular Fire Alarm service is critical for complying with the Fire Safety Order (FSO) and meeting your legal obligations as the Responsible Person.
Besides the risk of imprisonment and fines, the more serious repercussions of a fire alarm that doesn't work properly can be death or injury for your staff or visitors. Because of this, the majority of business owners are happy to get their system serviced regularly - as required by the FSO.
Sadly, sometimes even the most diligent businesses can be put at risk if they choose to use an unaccredited contractor to do their maintenance.
It's a problem that can often remain hidden until revealed by a professional service... or when the worst happens. Read the following story carefully - it could be you.
We recently took over the maintenance of a Fire Alarm System at a school in Kent from their previous Fire & Security installer.
The school had a power cut before we even had a chance to carry out our first maintenance visit.
Under normal circumstances, the batteries in the control panel should keep the system running for at least 24 hours when the power is cut.
However, because they had not been tested and maintained properly by the previous installer, the system collapsed after just 1 hour!
The school was left vulnerable, without a Fire Alarm System during their power cut.
Luckily, Blake's came to the rescue - we replaced the old batteries for the client and carried out our regular maintenance.
Now the school are much happier knowing their system is properly maintained and able to withstand any future power cuts.
