If you're worried about a break in or you've experienced one already and want to burglar-proof your home, you're in the right place.
An insightful video by Cambridgeshire Police reveals a convicted crook's burglary tips - so homeowners like you can take preventative measures to beat the burglars!
Unfortunately, the video is no longer live... but the tips are still very much relevant.
A burglar's motive:
The convicted burglar's motivation to steal small items was so he could sell them and "have a good time".
These items were often jewellery, handbag items, laptops and iPads - things that would definitely sell quickly.
When asked what factors determined which houses he burgled, he replied:
"At night, 2 out of 10 houses are left open... I'll try the front door, back door and windows...I'd even smash the window with a brick and enter the house while they're sleeping upstairs."
How to burglar-proof your home:
Here are a few tips to help burglar-proof your home and keep the bad guys away this winter:
Don't leave presents under the Christmas tree in plain sight
If you buy or receive large valuable items to give as gifts this Christmas, do not leave the boxes unwrapped in your rubbish pile outside - this is giving burglars a list of what you have inside!
Always keep your doors and windows locked at night - even if you think you live in a safe neighbourhood
