Imagine you're having a blast on a family holiday, 120 miles away from home.
One evening, you put the kids to bed and finally get to unwind. All of a sudden, your mobile phone buzzes and you receive a notification from your home CCTV app... the cameras inside your house are picking up activity!
It's one of those unbelievable situations that you think "will never happen to us".
But, the BBC shared a news article about Donna and Nathan Marusamy who got that dreaded notification from their CCTV app...
While they were away on a family trip to Burnham-on-Sea, an uninvited guest was wandering around their home in the West Midlands.
The burglar removed the glass in the conservatory window, placed it neatly on the floor and climbed in.
Donna and Nathan watched their home CCTV cameras in horror as he snooped through their belongings, room by room.
The items stolen included:
We can only imagine the gut-wrenching feeling Donna and her husband felt, watching a stranger in their family home.
Because of the app, Donna was able to contact her brother-in-law, while the intruder was still inside her home.
Arriving before the Police, he managed to scare the burglar off by shining a torch through the window.
He didn't approach or confront the burglar, just made it known that he was there.
This is the wise thing to do.
You never know if intruders are armed and willing to hurt you to get away - your safety is more important that your possessions.
If they hadn't received the alert from their CCTV app, the burglar could easily have got away with much more and no one would have been any the wiser until their return home.
Which is similar to what happened to John Terry, who was burgled while skiing down the slopes of the French Alps!
With some good shots of the intruder from the CCTV cameras, it's now much more likely that the burglar will be arrested - especially as his image has been plastered over Social Media.
