Checking NSI Accreditation Is Critically Important

Valid NSI accreditation indicates that your security company is qualified to design, install and maintain your home burglar alarm. While a smooth talking salesman can promise the world, without this accreditation from the National Security Inspectorate, he may not be as trustworthy as he seems.

It's critical that you check the credentials of the people you're considering to install your alarm system, so you can be sure:

• the security company is established and trustworthy
• the work they do is of a high quality
• your home is protected
• your insurance company are satisfied
• false alarms are kept to a bare minimum

If NSI accreditation (or SSAIB) is not in place, how can you be sure that the work they do will be up to scratch?

But even if the company say they are accredited by NSI you will need to check. It's easy! Read on for simple step by step instructions.

In four simple steps you can find out if the company are who they say they are. It's moments on the internet that could save you all kinds of bother further down the road. Well worth the minimal effort.

Step 1: Getting Started

The first step requires you to get the company's name and address and keep it handy, you'll need this next.

Step 2: NSI website

Go to the NSI website - http://www.nsi.org.uk/ - look for the Find an NSI approved company button in the top right corner (see image). And then do the following:

1. select All NSI
2. select All Services
3. add the Town/Postcode
4. add the company name in the search box - for example, Blake Fire & Security Systems
5. click search

If the company in question is accredited and on the NSI register, they are qualified to do the job and you're good to go. How easy is that?

Step 3: When search results fail

In the example for Blake Fire and Security Systems, the search may fail to return the correct result. You have to use the exact copy used in the database when searching by name.

To find Blake you may need to use an ampersand rather than the word and - "&" not "and". So you will get a result searching for Blake Fire & Security Systems.

Step 4: Call them

Blake Fire & Security Systems are NSI Gold approved installers and safe to use. You can see their listing here
