The latest phase of a three year contract to install bin stores for South Essex Homes has just been completed.
The criteria for this project, which began in 2015, was to comply with the Fire Risk Assessment and South Essex Homes' commitment to:
Previously, the bins were kept at the base of the buildings, posing risks to the health and
welfare of the residents.
The solution was to set the bins on new concrete plinths and supply and fit closed metal frameworks around them.
Now the bins are under lock and key, residents can deposit their rubbish but no one can move the wheely bins - except the refuse collectors. This stops the risk of the bins being moved.
The distance between the bins and the buildings is also now at a fixed, safe limit, which means it would be much harder for a fire to spread from the bins to the building.
So far, we have installed over 120 bin stores, providing greater safety and hygiene for tenants.
